Site Engineer (m/f/d)

Global Supply Chain R&D Engineering Services provides Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC’s Engineering and EHS organization.

This role will provide ongoing engineering support to R&D Site Operations, responsible for Facilities Services and Capital Projects program management. This will include the development and improvement of processes that support the operational delivery model and interfaces with other GSK functions, service partners and other 3rd party providers.

The primary purpose of the Facilities Engineer Role is to support consistent delivery of facilities, engineering service and compliance through provision of engineering and project management skills to support maintenance of infrastructure, management of high-severity risk programs and sustainability at R&D sites. This role will also work closely with the site operations teams and service partner organizations to maintain and optimize the technical performance in terms of reliability, safety and environmental integrity using a risk-based approach at our sites.

Key Responsibilities


  • Identify, initiate, and support delivery of engineering related capital projects on site ensuring compliance with Statutory Standards, GSK engineering standards and the site infrastructure strategy, and manage “ad-hoc” business projects as required by Site Operations Manager.
  • Support the governance of all engineering activity onsite through GEMBA, management monitoring, review of engineering data (engineering disruption, maintenance adherence, mean time to failure) and ensure service partner and third-party contractor works are being carried out in compliance with national, local standards and service level performance.
  • Lead the Engineering standards gap assessment and mitigation programme and manage risk mitigation plans/actions in the Risk Management System to ensure gaps from engineering assessments or with service delivery at sites are brought to acceptable levels (as low as reasonably practicable).
  • Act as site champion for Operational Occurrence Reporting, Engineering Change Control, Permit to Work, Energy Optimisation, Engineering Alert Management, EHS improvement programmes, working with central engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support site audits that require engineering input and manage improvement programs generated by various sources: Audit findings, CAPA, Engineering/EHS Alerts, Preventable Disruptions, Sustainability objectives.
  • Improve the sustainability and efficiency of the facilities, driving the implementation of energy savings projects and operational improvements.
  • Act as Technical Authority where the Local Engineering Lead has deemed competence is achieved and as deputy to the Local Engineering Lead (Site Technical Authority), always maintaining ethics and compliance values even when potential risk exists. Oversee end to end vendor management & Service Partners daily management of deliverables, ensuring to compliance to engineering and EHS standards.
  • Lead mid to large scale engineering & capital projects
  • Work with local and regional engineering team & Service Partners, and establish robust maintenance regimes & PPMs, to ensure compliance to Good Engineering Practices, Local Statutory, & GSK Engineering and EHS standards.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and acting as initial point of escalation for site stakeholders.
  • Drive implementation of GSK design guidelines and design principles into project design
  • Deputise for Site Operations Manager during periods of absence, as well as manage stakeholders & represent the site at above site forums as needed
  • Identify, manage, own, resolve Site Risks and escalate to VQMS as appropriate
  • Take part on site crisis team on rotational basis


Qualifications & Skills


  • Seasoned engineer with experience in facility operations or technical support services to an R&D or pharmaceutical facility
  • Displays knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements
  • Experience with facilities engineering and operations & maintenance of facilities infrastructure (boilers, chillers, HVAC, cooling towers)
  • Experience in Facilities Management or a facility-related Engineering or Technical discipline
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills both in English and in German (minimum C1 level)
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Demonstrable capability to govern external service partners.
