The Product

At Momentum Transfer, we are building an innovative platform that couples advanced measurement services and materials science analytics to help researchers understand their materials like never before.

Our service helps researchers gain access to measurements at synchrotrons (particle accelerators for materials science) in a singular fashion:

• unparalleled measurement scalability
• extraordinary data quality
• unique possibilities to extract materials knowledge from the measurement data
  
  

In addition, we are building a materials data analysis platform, based on data from our service and from users, to help scientists accelerate their materials development processes through data-driven decisions.

Your Role

We're seeking a self-driven, open-minded Senior Full Stack Engineer with a passion for frontend development to join our remotely working team in Germany. You'll work closely with the founders and fellow engineers to shape our web-based platform and drive innovation in our user interface.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility and drive development efforts
• Collaborate on full stack solutions with Node.js backend
• Design and implement intuitive, responsive user interfaces for our online beamline service
• Work closely with the Head of Engineering to define technical direction and best practices
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology choices
• Implement and maintain robust, scalable systems
• Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code following SOLID principles. Ensure comprehensive documentation and test coverage through unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  
  

Your Experience

Must haves:

• 6+ years of experience in full stack development, with a focus on frontend development
• Expert-level proficiency in React, TypeScript
• Language agnostic mindset
• Solid experience with Node.js for backend development
• Further technologies: AWS, PostgreSQL, Python
• Familiarity with modern frontend build tools and workflows
• Strong understanding of web performance optimization techniques
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills in English, at least above B2
• Positive, proactive mindset and ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Self-driven attitude with a passion for continuous learning and improvement
• Open-minded to new ideas and technologies
• Ability to form opinions while remaining open to discuss and challenge your ideas ("strong opinions, loosely held")
• Opt for simplicity rather than striving for perfection.

Nice to haves:

• Experience in scientific computing or working with large datasets
• Familiarity with concepts in materials science/physics/chemistry
• Knowledge of data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Interest/experience in any of the following is a plus
• Scientific data processing
• Natural and applied sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, crystallography)
• Computational/statistical analysis (e.g. machine learning/AI, data science)
