Engineering Manager Disaster Recovery (Azure, Kubernetes)

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll have the best of both worlds - the chance to work on disaster recovery projects while also leading and guiding our engineers. Specifically, you'll be working as the engineering manager of our disaster recovery team. Together you set out an overall disaster recovery strategy, and guide the developers through tactics, examples and hands-on collaboration for implementing said strategy.

Our stack contains many different technologies, including physical and virtual infrastructure in both multi and hybrid cloud settings. Software runs the gamut from 30 year old perl systems to modern microservices running in Kubernetes. AH Technology is hiring an Engineering Manager Disaster Recovery to ensure IT operations are prepared for major disruptions that we cannot really prevent from happening, like an airplane crashing down on our datacenter! But when it happens protocols and procedures need to be in place and our teams need to be aware on how to act. In this role you would lead by example. Our team exists out of 3 disaster recovery specialists, 1 Disaster Recovery advisor, and you! Our team is in the process of creating automated steps for responding to incidents and disasters through the development of building blocks for automated recovery and helping teams with creation and maintenance of runbooks. In this role you would lead by example, so an engineering background is an important requirement. Although the focus of your scope would predominantly be setting strategy, reporting results to management and leading your team of Disaster Recovery Specialists when it comes to HR topics like performance management, hiring, and coaching when needed. Our Head of Tech will manage the budgets!

Responsibilities:

• Provide training and support to IT staff to ensure they are prepared to respond to disasters and understand their roles and responsibilities.
• Work closely with Incident Commanders to ensure alignment of disaster recovery plans with incident management and service management processes.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure the availability and reliability of IT services and infrastructure in the event of a disaster.
• Ensure business requirements with regards to recovery are met by the IT teams.
• Document and report on disaster recovery activities to provide transparency and accountability to stakeholders.
• Stand-by duties for major incidents within Albert Heijn Technology, approximately once in the 6 weeks. Could be more, could be less!
• Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders during high priority incidents to quickly mitigate customer impact and keep business stakeholders informed.

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure and systems, including network, server, storage and cloud technologies.
• Knowledge of automation within Azure & Kubernetes environments. You won’t be doing this on a day to day business but having the knowledge is a requirement.
• Strong knowledge of disaster recovery principles, methodologies, and best practices.
• Experience developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans, including runbooks and testing procedures.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills to effectively manage high priority incidents and keep management informed.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and guide them through disruptions to ensure business continuity.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT service management / incident management and disaster recovery.
